AMOUR CAFE

Amour Cafe Salt Lake

Amour Café is the newest endeavor for Salt Lake’s leading renaissance pair, Casee and John Francis. Just five years after the couple launched their award-winning jam, Amour Spreads, they turned their Liberty Park area industrial kitchen into an inspired cafe.

The only thing curated more carefully than the cafe’s delicate decor are its ingredients.

The Francis’ believe in sourcing their fruit locally first – Mother Nature permitting. Their large local community is their main source for ingredients. From sustainable family farms to rogue batches of backyard quince trees, everything sourced is fresh and nothing is wasted. What isn’t used in the jam makes its way into the menu’s treats.

I should add that the Francis’ define “local” as anywhere within a day’s drive from your home – which makes sense. Just recently, John made a quick trip to Oregon for a fresh batch of Tayberries.

In talking with Casee and John, I was reminded that you can’t always force process. Just because Raspberry Rose is a best seller, doesn’t mean they will substitute frozen fruit to create more when they eventually sell out. And they always sell out. Instead, the couple experiments with other available fresh fruits and are constantly conjuring up new treats.

Their products, like their lives, are allowed to change paths.

Their big catalyst into the food industry happened in 2010 while the couple was busy with their fine gardening company. On a trip to Idaho for their wedding anniversary, they planned and set out for a full day hike. Shortly into their trek, an unexpected batch of Thimbleberries swayed their path and as easily as their day changed course, so did their passion. Having never made jam before, they loaded their packs with berries and headed back to their kitchen.

MENU RECOMMENDATIONS:

The menu is constantly changing based on what is available that season – or even that week. Stop in sporadically for new gelato flavors!

Also, I will say the Tumeric Ginger tea I tried a few weeks back makes me feel like all of my life choices since would impress even my yoga instructor. And for a perfectly portioned breakfast, try the pesto plate of their steam-scrambled eggs (sourced from Clifford Family Farm in Provo) complete with Eva’s whole wheat or gluten free toast and Amour Spreads Tomato Jam.
